The 4th grade students in Miss Duffy’s and Mrs. Shadrach’s science classes completed a Survivor Bridge Challenge to practice using the steps of the scientific method.


The challenge was to build a bridge to make it across a raging river. They didn’t want to fall in the river, so they had to make a paper model first and use pennies to represent people. The goal was to build the strongest bridge that held the most pennies using only one piece of paper.


Students explored many options, graphed data, and drew conclusions based on observations they made during the challenge.
