A collaborative student art project from Ridgeway Elementary and Hamilton High School is on display at the Fitton Center through March 12, 2015. A free public reception will take place at the Fitton Center on Thursday, February 19, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Terry Toney’s Ridgeway artists in first grade and Mrs. Megan Bells’ Hamilton High School ceramics class collaborated in creating monsters. The first graders designed and drew monsters after reading If You’re a Monster and You Know It, by Rebecca & Ed Emberley. The designs were then mailed to Mrs. Bell’s ceramics students who brought their designs to life in clay.
When the clay monsters made their appearance at Ridgeway, the first grade artists were so excited and had stories to share. That’s when Ridgeway’s fifth and sixth grade language arts students became involved. Mrs. Farquis’, Mr. Mills’ and Mrs. Arnold’s students interviewed about 75 of the 125 first grade artists, then wrote monster stories.
