Senior band member, Josh Schanie recently earned a spot as one of just 4 trombonists in the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble. He also earned a spot in the College Conservatory’s Preparatory Department Brass Choir as a trombonist.
Both of these groups are in partnership with CCM’s Collegiate Wind Studies program and the Music Education division. CCM Prep sponsors the only wind ensemble for high school students in the greater Cincinnati area. The Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble is for musicians in grades 9-12 who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, or percussion. The Brass Choir is open to brass players in grades 9-12.
These groups are skill-enhancing and enriching experiences that supplement but do not replace students’ experience in their own high school bands. These ensemble brings together students from diverse musical backgrounds to perform quality wind and brass ensemble literature.
Josh is a member of the Hamilton High Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. He is also a member of the Great Miami Youth Symphony Orchestra and was named as an alternate for the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. Josh is the son of Kevin and Julie Schanie.
