GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT:  Colette Williams Carnes, HHS Class of 2004, was was involved in many activities in high school.  She was the publicity chairperson of Newspaper, Varsity Basketball Player, Choir, and Homecoming Queen. She continued her education at Alabama A&M University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. During her time as an undergraduate she was accepted into the National Honor Society, a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Society for Education, Sigma Tau Epsilon Professional Fraternity Incorporated, and a member of the Alabama A&M University Gospel Choir where they released a CD and traveled to Italy.

Colette continued to pursue higher educational goals and obtained her Master’s in Educational Management from Strayer University, and a Master’s in Special Education k-6 from the University of West Alabama and graduated with honors. She also obtained her Ministerial License and currently hold a minister’s position at Eagles’ Nest Ministries Church under the Leadership of Bishop Daniel Richardson. She is an English and Language Arts teacher in Huntsville, Alabama and have been teaching various grades the last 8 years.  Her teaching awards include 2012 Teacher of the Year, Classroom Management Award, and Culturally Responsive Teaching Trainer for the Huntsville City School district. She is also the director of E2LP (extended learning program) in Huntsville, Alabama.

Her husband was in an accident that left him quadriplegic in 2011 and despite all the trials endured she has remained successful. She is a loving mother of two sons who are the joy of her life! She is a proud product of Hamilton City Schools as it tremendously helped shape her into the person she is today.
