HHS Art Student, Lucy Gainor, Wins Top Prize at Taft Museum With Portrait of Friend

Lucy Gainor, HHS Senior Art Student, won the grand prize scholarship of $2,000 at the Taft ARC Awards. ARC (Artists Reaching Classrooms) is  an education program of the Taft Museum of Art in which five Cincinnati artists visited the Senior Portfolio art class at Hamilton High to inspire our young artists. The class also visited the Taft Museum on two occasions, as well as a working art studio in downtown Cincinnati as part of the exclusive program for which only 12 area schools were selected.

Lucy earned the scholarship based on her  piece, “American Woman”, which is a portrait of her fellow art student Allison Hodapp,  and her artist statement. Lucy will be attending  University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) in the fall.

Other art students who will be continuing their art education are:

Liz Allen: SAA (School of Advertising Art, Dayton)

Savannah Bryant: DAAP

Lucy Gainor: DAAP

Kristyn Hamilton: Wright State or Art Academia of Cincinnati

Allison Hodapp: Art Academia of Cincinnati

Jorden James: Mount St. Joe or Miami of Oxford

Megan Needham: Miami
