Sixth grade students at Brookwood Elementary School participated in a Restaurant Project enrichment activity. This project promoted collaboration while collecting survey data, researching, planning, and marketing. Students were asked to present to the invited “investors” their ideas for a new restaurant. Students came up with drawings, jingles, logos, uniforms, menus and presented a budget.
Members of the group took on different roles of architect, chef, general manager, and head wait staff. The students displayed excellent problem solving skills and creativity. The “investors” (Ms. Furman, Mrs. Hollandsworth and Mrs. Westrick) had very positive feedback and offered helpful comments to the groups on their scoring rubrics. Overall the projects were successful and delicious as some groups brought in sample items from their proposed menus!
