Vocal Music Teacher, Christina Fox, likes to use recorded music as part of her physical warm-up routine with her Freshman and High School Choirs. She has been using Tonic Sol-fa’s recording of “The River is Wide” for about a year.
“As we were preparing to host Tonic Sol Fa last year, I was sharing some of the music from their new album,” said Mrs. Fox. “The students latched on to TSF’s song “The River is Wide” and requested to hear it daily, so I incorporated the song into our daily choral warm-ups. We use the song as background music while we breathe and get ready for singing. After we have completed our breathing exercises, the entire class joins in and sings the song. It is a great way to start our day!”
Mrs. Fox sent an email to Tonic Sol-fa letting them know how much her students loved this song. They asked her to send a video of one of her classes singing along with it. To her surprise, they included her footage in a recent video of the song which has had over 22,000 views on Facebook. TV Hamilton used this video in their promotion of the group’s upcoming concert at Hamilton High School. You can see them at 2:25-2:48 singing along with the group and again at 3:37 to the end singing all alone.
