Bridgeport Snack Cart Helps Students with Visual Impairments

The Bridgeport Elementary School snack cart is a business currently ran by 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. The students are learning life skills, such as counting money and interacting appropriately with others. Each day, the students take the cart around the school and deliver food and drinks to teachers and other staff members who have placed orders.

Our staff includes students with visual impairments, which presents an exciting opportunity for functional technology instruction. Two of our students are learning to use an app that identifies different dollar bills, which will be an important practical skill for their daily lives. We have completed over 50 orders in our first 2 weeks of business!  The snack cart is ran by Jennifer McQueen in the morning and Erin Reed in the afternoon.
