Middle School Orchestras Earn Superior Ratings
Both Garfield and Wilson 8th grade orchestras earned Superior (I) ratings at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) Large Group Contest this past weekend. Congratulations to Mrs. Pamela Carroll and the Garfield Orchestra and Miss Maureen Driscoll and the Wilson Orchestra!
The Garfield 8th grade choir earned an Excellent (II) Rating. The choir is under the direction of Mr. Matthew Baker.
Highland Art Students Create Puzzle Tree for Autism Awareness
A beautiful tree with colors in rainbow order currently adorns the lobby of the Board of Education Central Office building. The tree is the creation of Ms. Emily Howard’s Art students and represents the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Also, since every puzzle piece is different in some way, a puzzle piece accurately represents the diversity of the individuals affected by Autism.
Final Vocal Concert of the Year
Mrs. Christina Fox and all Hamilton High and Hamilton Freshman Choirs performed their final concert of the year. The concert featured Freshman Voices, Concert Chorale, Vocal Elegance, and Rhapsody in Blue. The groups performed separately and ended with the combined performance of two songs from the hit movie, “The Greatest Showman”

Freshman Orchestra Show They’re Ready for High School
The Freshman Orchestra presented their final concert of the year. The group, under the leadership of Mr. Matthew Kirkendall, has had a very successful year and are ready to move up to the Hamilton High School orchestra.
A highlight of the concert was a selection performed by a totally student led string quartet. Members of the quartet are:
Wilson Choir Concert
The 7th and 8th grade choirs of Wilson Middle School presented their final concert of the school year, as they performed songs from the Broadway Musical and Pop genres. Mr. Samuel Downs led the choirs separately and in 2 combined numbers.
Hamilton High and Freshman Band Students Perform in Concert
The band classes of Hamilton Freshman and Hamilton High Schools presented their final concert of the school year. The concert featured the 1st, 6th, and 7th period bands as well as the Jazz Band. The Jazz Band had also given an impressive performance at the Hamilton Rotary Luncheon earlier in the day.
A highlight of the band concert was the debut performance of an original piece by Senior, Jacob McFarland titled “Man of the Mill”. This piece was inspired by Jacob’s hard-working grandfather Larry Whitt who worked at the Champion Paper Mill. Jacob will present a Composition Recital, with more of his original compositions in the Hamilton High School Auditorium this Friday, May 11 at 7pm. Jacob will be attending College Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati, majoring in music composition in the fall.
Riverview Music Has Busy Week
Miss Briana Bergen opened the doors of her music class to families of Kindergarten students to experience what their students do in a typical music class this past week. The students enjoyed sharing songs, dances, and singing games with their families.
Riverview also hosted a Family Folk Dance Night. Miss Bergen invited students and their families to come out and join in folk dances such as “Sasha” and “Alabama Girl”. The students had learned the dances in music class and helped teach them to their parents and family members.
