Highland Art Students Create Puzzle Tree for Autism Awareness

A beautiful tree with colors in rainbow order currently adorns the lobby of the Board of Education Central Office building. The tree is the creation of Ms. Emily Howard’s Art students and represents the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Also, since every puzzle piece is different in some way, a puzzle piece accurately represents the diversity of the individuals affected by Autism.

Hamilton High and Freshman Band Students Perform in Concert

The band classes of Hamilton Freshman and Hamilton High Schools presented their final concert of the school year.  The concert featured the 1st, 6th, and 7th period bands as well as the Jazz Band. The Jazz Band had also given an impressive performance at the Hamilton Rotary Luncheon earlier in the day.

A highlight of the band concert was the debut performance of an original piece by Senior, Jacob McFarland titled “Man of the Mill”. This piece was inspired by Jacob’s hard-working grandfather Larry Whitt who worked at the Champion Paper Mill. Jacob will present a Composition Recital, with more of his original compositions in the Hamilton High School Auditorium this Friday, May 11 at 7pm. Jacob will be attending College Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati, majoring in music composition in the fall.

Riverview Music Has Busy Week

Miss Briana Bergen opened the doors of her music class to families of Kindergarten students to experience what their students do in a typical music class this past week.  The students enjoyed sharing songs, dances, and singing games with their families.

Riverview also hosted a Family Folk Dance Night. Miss Bergen invited students and their families to come out and join in folk dances such as “Sasha” and “Alabama Girl”.  The students had learned the dances in music class and helped teach them to their parents and family members.

Participants in Riverview Family Folk Dance Night learn a circle dance.
