KUDOS to our Music students!

All-City Boychoir Festival Eleven of our students participated in the 5th Annual All-City Boychoir Festival held at Cincinnati’s Aronoff Center for the Arts P&G Hall on Saturday November 7! This year’s theme was “The World We Travel.” The boys rehearsed all day, and performed high energy world music featuring powerful percussion, movement and more! The concert was free to the public, presented in the P&G Hall at the Aronoff Center, in downtown Cincinnati. It was great to see Bridgeport “fans” in the audience! Several staff members and family members came to support our boys. Please CONGRATULATE the following Bridgeport students who participated in this wonderful event: Christian Bauer grade 3 Kai Hill grade 3 Markus (M.J.) West grade 3 Willie Baker grade 4 Will Brunck grade 4 Brayden Bryant grade 4 Patrick Gibbons grade 4 Benjamin Haight grade 4 Landon Hamblin grade 4 Jaime Sanchez grade 4 Dravin Downey grade 6 In addition, these boys performed as a Bridgeport Boychoir ensemble for a group of community members who came to our school to learn about our “Leader In Me” program. They sang our “Bridgeport Tango” and accompanied themselves on percussion instruments. Cincinnati Boychoir-Resident Choir After the experience at the Boychoir Festival, one of our students auditioned for the year-round Boychoir experience. We are proud to announce that LANDON HAMBLIN (4th Grade) was selected for the group, and was placed in the Cincinnati Boychoir’s “Resident Choir” (the advanced ensemble within the Intermediate Division, which is “step three” in the Cincnnati Boychoir family of ensembles). This is a quite an honor for Landon, and we are sure he will be a great ambassador as he represents Bridgeport and Hamilton! Landon will be devoting a lot of time to this endeavor. He will travel to Cincinnati for rehearsals every Monday evening and will be performing in 5-10 performances per year. He will have the opportunity to work, perform, and travel with elementary through high school age students from all over the tri-state area. We couldn’t be more proud of him! OMEA District 13 Honor Choir Three Bridgeport students were selected to the OMEA District 13 Honor Choir. This group is supported by the Ohio Music Education Association, and District 13 encompasses four counties: Butler, Warren, Clinton, and Preble. This Honor Choir may include students from any school in those counties, in grades 5 through 6. We are proud to have three students in this group this year (all in 6th grade):  Anna Dollenmeyer  Dravin Downey  Samantha Hacker These students will attend several evening rehearsals in February in preparation for the Honor Choir weekend. Then, they will rehearse with students from all over the area at Kings High School, under the direction of a nationally-known conductor and composer. Their final performance will be a concert hosted at Kings High School on Saturday, February 28. Hamilton Young Musicians Club The Hamilton Young Musicians Club has replaced our former Hamilton Honor Choir. This “choir club” will meet three times per year. Students rehearse on a Friday evening and Saturday morning with students from other Hamilton City School District elementary schools. They are recommended to the group by their music teacher, based on given criteria. The first gathering of the Young Musicians Club was December 11-12. The students rehearsed at Garfield Middle School, then presented a concert on Saturday afternoon. We are proud to announce that we had 7 students representing Bridgeport! Congratulations to:  Ricky Dawson (grade 6)  Jaylah Hudson (grade 5)  Max Lane (grade 6)  Kayla Lawson (grade 6)  Destiny Powell (grade 6)  Ethan Steele (grade 6)  Bailey Strong (grade 6) Mrs. Alfaro is currently in the process of recommending students for the next Young Musicians Club weekend, which will be held at Garfield Middle School on March 3-4. This is open to 5th and 6th grade students who enjoy singing and act as ambassadors of our school and music program. Recommendation forms were sent home the first week of January. For more information, or to see if your child has lost their registration form, please contact Mrs. Alfaro at calfaro@hcsdoh.org. […]
