Career Technical Education

HHS is proud to offer a wide variety of fantastic Career Technical programs to our students.  All of our programs offer college credit or career certifications, meaning our students graduate from HHS with valuable job training or coursework for their degree program.  Our programs are award winning and are some of the best in the state.

Programs

Automotive

Students in our automotive program will learn how to diagnose, repair and maintain modern automobiles. This ASE certified program introduces students to a wide variety of automobile repair skills. Completion of this program prepares students for employment in: Automotive Maintenance, Automotive Parts & Sales Service, Automotive Technician, Heavy Truck Technician, Service Management/Sales and Marketing and Heavy Equipment Technician.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 8 college credits in this program.

Can earn Certificates & Credentials in:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hour course –three year certification.
  • NATEF/ASE Certification in: Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Electrical & Engine Performance

Carpentry/Construction

This program provides students basic carpentry experiences. Students will develop the concepts, understanding, and skills required for successful employment in the construction field. Shop safety and the proper care of tools are stressed daily. Completion of this program prepares students for employment in: Residential or Commercial Construction, Construction Superintendent, Building Manager, Construction Foreman or Lumber Supply Sales.

Students have the opportunity to earn 7 college credits in this program.

Can earn Certificates & Credentials in:

  • Bobcat Skid Steer Loader License
  • Bobcat Forklift License
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hour course – three year certification.
  • NCCER Certification on a national registry
  • Fire Extinguisher Training Certificate

Cosmetology

The Cosmetology Program at Hamilton High School is a clocked hour as well as a competency based program designed to prepare students to take the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology (OSBC) exam and to prepare students to enter the exciting and rewarding field of cosmetology. The curriculum includes all aspects of the cosmetology field including employability skills, hygiene, sanitation, management, salon artistry, and other related areas. Junior students are required to complete a mandatory 100 hour Summer Salon Internship.

After completing the two-year program and passing the state board exam, students will be licensed to perform hair services, skin care and nail services in salons licensed by the State of Ohio.

After completing two year program students will attend the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology to take the board exam and gain their Ohio Cosmetology License and specialize in:

  • Haircutting Specialist
  • Hair Colorist
  • Hair Design Stylist
  • Braiding and Hair Extensions
  • Chemical Texturizing Technician
  • Manicurist and Pedicurist
  • Artificial Nails
  • Esthetics and Skin Care
  • Make-up Artist
  • Manager/Owner of a Beauty salon
Industrial Credentials: Students may earn up to 15 credits

Ohio State Board of Cosmetology – License of Cosmetology  12 credits

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-Hour Training  1credit

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Training   1credit

CPR First Aid  1credit

Engineering Design

Students in Engineering are introduced to the discipline and profession of applying technical, scientific and mathematical knowledge in order to use natural laws and physical resources to help design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective. You will learn the fundamentals of Engineering, Computer Aided Design and Electricity/Electronics. Completion of this program prepares students for employment as: Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Industrial Engineer, CAD Technician, Engineering Assistant or a Civil or Mechanical Drafter.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 15 college credits in this program.

Can earn certificates and credentials in:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 5 hour course – three year certification.
  • Certified in SolidWorks, a 3D modeling software program.

Exercise Science

Students in this program will be introduced to the area of fitness training and athletic training. As consumers become more concerned with health, beauty and fitness, the number of health enrichment facilities will increase, causing an increase in demand for workers in this group. Completion of this program prepares students for employment as: Fitness Center Staff Member, Aerobics Instructor, Personal Trainer, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, or Pre-Medical Student.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 13 college credits in this program.

  • CPR Certification
  • AED Certification
  • First Aid Certification

Game Programming

Students discover the world of Game Programming with Visual Basic 6.0 Pro and the most popular computer language in the world, JAVA. According to US News, Game Programming is one of the top 10 college majors that leads to jobs. Completion prepares students for employment in: Software Development, Software Engineer, Information Systems, Data Base Management, Software Design, Data Analyst and Web Development.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 17 college credits in this program.

Health Careers

Health Careers is a two-year program designed to give students foundation knowledge and skills necessary to become entry-level workers or to pursue post-secondary education in the healthcare field. Course studies include anatomy and physiology of all the body systems, medical terminology and disease pathophysiology along with basic skills used by medical, lab and nursing assistants. Clinical experiences are provided by community healthcare facilities and career exploration is fundamental to the program. Completion prepares students for employment in: LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), RN (Registered Nurse), Physical/Occupational Therapist, Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic, State Tested Nurse’s Aide, Patient Care Technician/Medical Assistant or Dietary Assistant.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 7 college credits in this program and 5 additional articulated credits if they attend Sinclair Community College.

Can earn certificates and credentials in:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association including CPR/AED.
  • AHA Heartsaver First Aid
  • STNA (State Tested Nurse’s Aide from Ohio Department of Health) (Ohio Registry)
  • Fire Extinguisher Safety Certificate
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 5 hour course – three year certification.

IT:ISS

This is a two-year program where students are introduced into the high-demand world of Information Technology. Successful students from this class are in high demand as there is a shortage of IT people in the work force today. You will learn about PC Systems Servicing, PC Systems Troubleshooting, Hardware Management, Hardware Design and Presentation Graphics. Completion of this program prepares students for employment in: Technical Specialist, PC Support Technician, Computer Operator, Microcomputer Technology, Data Processing and Telecommunications.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to 24 college credits in this program.

Can receive certificates and credentials in:

  • Comptia A+ Certification
  • Comptia Net+ Certification
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 5 hour course – three year certification.

Teacher Academy

This program is offered to students who are interested in pursuing a career in education. Qualified students will learn about the challenges and opportunities offered through a career in education. Students participate in work-based classroom experiences in a variety of education settings and through specific foundations of teaching instruction. Completion prepares students for employment in the following fields: Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education, Young Adult Education, Special Needs Education, Guidance Counseling and Coaching.

Students have the opportunity to earn up to three college credits in this program.
