On Saturday, 20 October 2018, Hamilton’s NJROTC unit travelled to Northmont HS to participate in a regional Academic, Athletic, Drill and Air Rifle competition. Competing against nine other JROTC units, Hamilton under the command of Senior, Jaycie Lyttle earned an overall third place finish. Ms. Lyttle also commanded the inspection, academic, athletic, color guard and air rifle teams. Under her tutelage, Hamilton finished in second in inspection and academics and third in athletics and air rifle. The UnArmed IDR drill team, commanded by Junior, Curtis Schutte, earned a second place finish. The Armed IDR drill team, commanded by Junior, Emily Duff, earned a third place finish. In the knockout drill competition, Senior Deyonte Tipton won first place in Armed Drill, while Junior Emily Duff took first place in Unarmed and second in Armed Drill. The competition added a Brain Brawl (Academic Quiz Team) exhibition competition with Hamilton under the leadership of Senior, Deyonte Tipton took first place. Well done to all and Bravo Zulu!
On Thursday, 11 October 2018, four members of the Hamilton HS NJROTC unit presented the colors for the annual George Brown Dinner at the Queen City Club for the Cincinnati Chapter of the U.S. Navy League. The guest speaker for this year’s event was the Under Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Thomas Modly. In this capacity, Secretary Modly is the Chief Management Officer and Chief Information Officer of the Department of the Navy, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. Also in attendance were numerous representatives from several businesses in Cincinnati as well as many active, veteran and retired service members. Presenting the colors and pictured with Under Secretary Modly is (left to right), Junior, Micah Bridge; Senior and Unit Commander, Jaycie Lyttle; Senior and Unit Executive Officer, Rebecca Combs; and Junior Michael McFarland.
At the end of his speech, Under Secretary Modly presented five of his coveted challenge coins; one to the master of ceremonies, CAPT George Springer, USN (ret) and one to each member of the color guard.
On Saturday, 13 October 2018, the 243rd Birthday of the U.S. Navy, Hamilton’s Academic Team competed at the Scarlet Oaks’ Brain Brawl. Twelve teams from six NJROTC units from Ohio and Indiana competed in this quiz team style event. Hamilton fielded three teams with each team comprised of one fourth year student, one third year student, one second year student and one first year student. Our three teams took the top three places. The first place team was comprised of Senior and Unit Commander, Jaycie Lyttle; Senior, Tyler Tripoli; Junior, Curtis Schutte and Freshman, Morrigan Tamas. The second place team was comprised of Senior, Henry Wysong; Junior, Micah Bridge; Sophomore, Jessica Bollinger; and Freshman, Haylei Cook. The third place team was comprised of Senior, Deyonte Tipton; Junior, Eleisia Harrison; Junior, Nicholas Wright and Freshman, Joshua Hawkins. Additionally, an “all-star” round was run with the best from each team competing against each other, that round was won by Senior, Deyonte Tipton. BRAVO ZULU (well done)!
